I have got my RT1062 running nicely but there is s a fuzzy smear on the video screen in the IDE.
It never moves, I have a picture of it: Is it safe to separate the camera from its matrix (2 small screws) and attempt to clean it?

Yes, that’s always safe. Use alcohol to clean the camera IC and then a cloth to wipe it down afterwards.
That’s most likely a piece of some type of fiber on the camera IC.
