OpenMV Cam RT1062 – Why are suppliers still shipping older revisions (R4) instead of the latest R6?

Hello,

I am purchasing the OpenMV Cam RT1062 in India through local distributors such as Robu.in. However, the boards being supplied are Revision R4, while according to the OpenMV documentation the latest revision is R6.

I have a couple of questions regarding this:

  1. Is R4 still being manufactured and distributed, or are these boards simply older stock held by suppliers?

  2. Are there any functional or hardware differences between R4 and the newer revisions (R5/R6) that users should be aware of?

  3. Should distributors ideally mention the board revision on their product pages, since customers may expect to receive the latest revision?

  4. If someone wants to purchase the latest revision (R6), is there a recommended way to ensure this when buying through third-party suppliers?

Currently, many supplier pages (including Robu) do not specify the board revision, so it is unclear which version will be delivered.

Any clarification on the revision availability and purchasing recommendations would be very helpful.

Thank you.

Hello!

  1. It’s just an old board held by distributors.
  2. Yes, these are documented on the product page under details. For most users, the changes aren’t anything you need. However, they do matter for users putting the RT1062 into products and real deployments.
  3. That would be great if they did. We don’t have much control over what they decide to post on their product pages.
  4. We have never distributed the R6. You must purchase it from us if you want it. All distributors pretty much have the R4. We only did one production run of the R5, which was sold mainly to a few companies buying in bulk.
