Re: Thoughts on this setup to avoid getting eaten by a bear?

You should capture some thermal images of bears and then train a CNN on that. This will give you the best result. I'd recommend to have the camera capturing snapshots. Every 10 seconds or so into multiple folders. Create a new folder each day and move new snapshots into those folders. Once you've c...

Re: Thoughts on this setup to avoid getting eaten by a bear?

Okay, I have a couple H7 Pluses and a WiFi shield now (takes a bit to get stuff in Alaska). My goal is to now get this thing to recognize a bear in a video feed. I think I want image detection rather than object detection (at least for now). My question is, should I: 1. Try to train a dataset on the...

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

Thanks for the update.

For my purposes I'll just continue with having it save in mjpeg format I suppose for my purposes and go from there.

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

I downloaded VLC and it opens the files AND they look normal without that weird psychedelic look to them. This is using the mjpeg script. I suspect using the image_writer script would still produce the odd colors. I tried it again to test but got the "ffjpeg failed to launch" again. But for mjpeg, Q...

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

This morning I formatted the Samsung SD card in Ex-FAT and tried again. Now the H7 doesn't seem to save the files to the SD card (I eject and re-plugin before checking). Perhaps because I renamed the SD card from "untitled" to something else? I renamed it back to "untitled" and now it saves the exam...

Thank you sir, much appreciated!

I also have another H7 Plus in the packaging that I could try as well if it's helpful for troubleshooting.

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

Okay, I'll try it again and I will wait until after the script has completed for a minute before disconnecting and replugging in the H7 and then I'll try it again and see what happens. Edit: This time I recorded a mjpeg using the example script and after the script completed and said "done" and told...

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

Question, did you copy the file from the SD card to the PC? Do not try to launch the viewer program from the file on the as card directly. I did not copy the file from the SD card to the PC. I was trying to convert the file from the SD card and save the converted file to my PC. After reading your p...

Re: Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

I used the mjpeg_1.py example script and saved a video to a new SD card (swapped out the SamSung one for a SanDisk in case that was the issue). Ejected and replugged in the H7 and then tried to play it with the play video tool. Terminal showed the following message: [avi @ 0x7fb1b5052800] Could not ...

Re: Saved GIF or Video looks psychedelic and not like preview

It's happening in the with the /stream.bin and mjpeg files when I try to use those other video recording example scripts. All have what appears to look like a trippy filter applied to the video. I don't need GIFs saved. I just need to be able to save video in a quality format, hopefully as good as w...

Trouble converting ImageWriter to video (mp4) on H7 Plus

I have been having a couple of issues trying to convert video (and sometimes play it) captured from the image_writer_1.py example script (and also the mjpeg_1.py script). I'm using MacOS and the H7 Plus with an SD card in the H7 Plus. There are two issues and they alternate. 1. Sometimes I get the "...

Saved GIF or Video looks psychedelic and not like preview

Got my H7 Plus in the mail and and am enjoying tinkering with it. I've tried the gif_1.py example script and the ImageWriter_1.py example script and the output looks weird. It doesn't look like the preview in the IDE while the script is running which looks like normal video. Anybody know what I'm me...

I don't think the Pure Thermal is out yet for sale. Re: Hardware Setup for Servo Control

Thanks for the follow up, I'll get a servo shield and use that with my wifi shield instead.

Since the servo shield doesn't regulate input power like the pan & tilt shield, I will do some research on how to power the H7 and the servos from my 12.8V 20 amp battery.

Re: Image Statistics

The bounding box is an ROI, which when you draw it you modify the source image. The example script draws the bounding box after getting the temp I think. Is it possible to have the image detection running on a video stream (to execute code when an image is detected) without drawing the boxes on the...

Re: Hardware Setup for Servo Control

I guess I should have said H7 Plus. I saw a recent post from you about it not having a servo 3 but I don't know if that applies to the pan and tilt shield. I can get by with only two servos though. Will the pan and tilt shield work with the WiFi shield? I think I read somewhere that those two shield...

Re: Hardware Setup for Servo Control

I bought the pan and tilt shield and when it comes in I'm hoping I can power the H7 from a 12 volt battery and use the shield to power three servos. My understanding is that's what the shield is for, taking input power and using it to power servos.

Awesome. I assume that can all be done via code so I won't have to interact with it. That's a great power draw, thanks!

Re: Operating Temperature for the H7 and H7 Plus?

Answering questions on Christmas, that's some dedication! Happy holidays to you guys.

I will plan on having something measure outside temperature and stop power to the unit when it hits -10F or so. Then supply power back when the temp rises. Bears SHOULD be asleep at these temps anyway.

H7 plus and WiFi shield power consumption

The H7 plus power consumption is 240mA @ 3.3V (Active - μSD Card) and the WiFi Shield (Active) is 100 mA @ 3.3V (220 mA w/ Cam) and I'm trying to determine the max power draw of the H7 plus with the Wifi Shield. Would that be 240 + 220 for 460mA at 3.3V? Also, is it possible to turn the WiFi shield ...

Re: Operating Temperature for the H7 and H7 Plus?

What happens to the H7 or H7 plus if the weather gets colder than their operating temperature (like -20F)? Does the unit just shut down until it warms up? Or would I need to code something in so that it uses lepton temps to know when it's getting too cold and to shut the unit down through code to pr...

Re: Hardware Setup for Servo Control

Is a relay board a good way to allow the pin from the OpenMV H7 to turn power "on" to a servo while it takes power from an external power source (like a battery)? Or is there something more simple that will do the same thing, like a relay switch, so that a relay board isn't needed? Will the pan and ...

Re: Thoughts on this setup to avoid getting eaten by a bear?

That makes sense. The image detection happens on the H7 itself and should therefore recognize bears and blow the horn and take the video. We would hear the airhorn while there, but while away from the property we wouldn't be able to be notified unless we had it connected to the internet. I think I w...

Thoughts on this setup to avoid getting eaten by a bear?

I need to install a stand alone system that detects bears using a Lepton camera (which will activate an electric airhorn) and will be powered by solar. I live deep in the bush off grid in Alaska and I have good solar and internet through a cell tower. A brown bear with six cubs just destroyed our yu...

Re: FLIR Thermal Camera Person Detection

Will this work with the Lepton PureThermal2 USB camera plugged into a Rpi? If so, this would be a godsend. I'm trying to create a FLIR sensor that detects bears and blows an airhorn for our yurt off grid in Alaska. Brown bear tore our place to pieces while we were gone and we're hoping to keep that ...
